An emotional support animal provides comfort through its presence. An emotional support animal letter, often called an ESA letter, records a clinician’s assessment for a particular purpose; it is not a pet passport or a universal permission slip.
A service dog performs trained disability-related tasks. That distinction matters when checking public access and travel rules.
